Cannabis Cultivation & Usage History
Cannabis has been cultivated for more than 3000 years. It
was originated from central Asia, and spread to whole
world. India has written record for cultivation and uses
of cannabis in Atharvaveda during 2000 B.C. to 1000 B.C.
Soil & Climatic Conditions for Hemp Cultivation
Land should be well aerated and free from waterlogging.
Waterlogging kills the pant. Suitable soil types for
cultivation are; Sandy loam, Clay loam, silt loam etc.
High organic content is favorable. Soil pH value should
be between 6-7.5. Acidic soil is not suited for Hemp
cultivation. Temperature between 16oC to
27oC is best suited for Hemp cultivation. But
Hemp can tolerate up to -5oC. Ideal required
rainfall is in between 630mm to 700mm per annum.
